New Client Bookings and FAQ's
Welcome to My Psych Clinic, we’re so glad you’ve found us.
This section provides helpful information for people considering becoming a new client. You’ll find details about what to expect when getting started, as well as guidance on the first steps in accessing our services.
Our aim is to help you feel informed and supported as you consider the next steps in your journey with us.
I am interested in working with one of your therapists, how do I book?
Step one
Contact us or we receive your referral
Have a browse of our website to determine whether our approach is the right fit for you. We have information about the different therapy and assessment options as well as information on our fees and cancellation policy. If you have any questions that cannot be answered on our website, you can chat with our reception team using our live chat function on the bottom right of the screen.

Ready to proceed? The next step is to give our friendly admin team a call on (07) 3349 5511, or send an email if you don't like talking on the phone.

If your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician has sent your referral directly to us, we will call to introduce ourselves and start the booking process.
Step two
Our receptionist consults with you
It's important as a new client to chat with our receptionists first so we know what you are looking for and to match you with a psychologist who has the availability and expertise in the area you require. Whilst you are free to choose your preferred psychologist, our matching process aims to achieve better outcomes.

When matching you to a psychologist, our receptionists will take into consideration the following:
-
Your presenting issues, concerns, problems or symptoms
-
Your age
-
Your day and time preference
-
Psychologist availability and capacity to take on new clients
-
Psychologist expertise and scope of practice (i.e. the types of problems and issues they are trained to treat)
-
Personality and style of the psychologist.
Our receptionists may be able to offer you some options over the phone and schedule an appointment, or they may require further information from you and/or a phone call with a client care psychologist to give us the best chance of placing you with the right psychologist. You can read all about our psychologists here.

If you prefer to speak with a psychologist about who would be a suitable fit, feel free to contact our admin team and request a client care call.
Step three
For some clients, a client care call will be scheduled
Most of our new referrals can be booked with the next available or preferred psychologist. There are some situations, however, where we recognise the value in taking the time to understand your needs and ensure best fit. In these cases, we schedule a short client care call (10-15 minutes) with one of our client care psychologists to discuss your needs and match you with our most suitable psychologist, based on their professional preferences and training. Our psychologists conduct this process rather than our receptionists as they have the appropriate skills to assess your needs and ensure a good fit.
This process also helps us to assess whether our practice is the best fit for your needs, and if not, we will advise you at this point, and aim to provide you with suggestions for alternative services that may be more suitable.
Step four
Booking in your appointment
Once an initial appointment is confirmed and scheduled, our admin team will take a $50 deposit to secure your appointment. This will be taken off the cost of your first appointment.
It's best to schedule three or four appointments so that you do not miss out as our psychologists fill up quickly and you may not be able to secure your preferred time. You won't need to provide a deposit for each session, just the first one.

You will be emailed a new client consent form, which gives detailed information about our service and your privacy when seeing one of our psychologists. We need you to complete this prior to the appointment to ensure you have an informed understanding of the service. You are very welcome to speak to reception or your psychologist if you have any questions or concerns about consent and confidentiality.
Step five
Coming to your appointment
As you approach your first appointment, we will send appointment reminders via text and email and information about how to access our building and parking.

We will also send through a survey from NovoPsych called a DASS-10 or a CORE-10 (if you're aged over 14 years), you can read more about the DASS-10 and why we use it here.

After your first appointment, your psychologist will recommend the frequency and duration of your sessions. If you have not done so already, you can book or change these with reception before you leave, or, now that you are a client of My Psych Clinic you can register for online bookings and use our portal to schedule appointments.
